Poetry Page
This is the Poetry Page! Within this page, there are three different important elements. The first is a found poem from The Hello, Goodbye Window. The second poem is a poem that I wrote based on The Hello, Goodbye Window. The final element is a poetry activity.
Found Poem
This is a Found Poem. A found poem is solely found in the book. To create a found poem you can only use words or phrases specifically from the book. Below is a found poem that I created from The Hello, Goodbye Window.
The Hello, Goodbye Window.
It looks like a regular window, but it's not.
We can look at our reflections in the window.
We stand by the window and say good night to the stars.
Sometimes I just sit by the Hello, Goodbye Window and watch.
It's a magic window and anybody can come along when you least expect it.
All could come!
And I'll see them first.
When I get my own house someday I'm going to have a special Hello, Goodbye Window too.
When we leave we always stop at the window to blow kisses goodbye.
When you look from the outside, Nanna and Poppy's house has lots of windows, but there's only one Hello, Goodbye Window and it's right where you need it.

My Poem: Grandparents
This is a poem that I wrote based off of The Hello, Goodbye Window. I wrote this poem while thinking about how important my grandparents have been in my life. Within this poem I used a few poetic elements. The poetic elements have I used are repetition, comparison, and onomatopoeia.
Grandparents I love them.
Always willing to give without the need of anything in return.
Grandparents continually age.
It breaks my heavy heart. I want them to live forever.
Grandparents spoil you endlessly.
Vacations, shopping, dinner, movies; anything your heart desires.
Grandparents are full of all-knowing wisdom.
Always can count on them to teach you a tough lesson in a loving manner instead of the way your upset parents do.
Grandparents are some of my most beloved family members.
Never would I change any memory I have with them. I wish I could relive them all.

Poetry Activity
There are many different ways to write poetry. For this activity, you are going to complete an "If I Were..." poem. An "If I Were..." poem is written as if you were the character in the story. With this type of poem, you write about how you would feel and what you would do if you were someone else. I have completed the same "If I Were..." poem that you are going to complete. Feel free to look at my example to get ideas on what to write!
